Political Tensions Rise in Mexican Senate

During a session in the Senate this Wednesday, an altercation broke out between PAN Senator Lilly Téllez and Cynthia López Castro, who recently joined the ranks of Morena after leaving the PRI after 20 years.

In the midst of López Castro's intervention, Téllez stood up and threw several coins at her, referencing the story of Judas Iscariot. López Castro responded by labeling this action as political gender violence against women. Gerardo Fernández Noroña also got involved, stating that what happened was precisely that, political gender violence.

López Castro, now part of Morena, highlighted the importance of the Reform and mentioned that only 10% of the crimes committed in 2023 were reported. She emphasized the benefits of this Reform to increase public trust in the Public Ministry. She expressed her commitment to the citizens who trusted her, asserting that she will continue to defend them, beyond partisan colors.

"I reiterate my call to senators not to approach others," López Castro declared, who is also being seen as a possible competitor for Cuauhtémoc in 2027. The senator emphasized her support for Morena, stressing that it is the party from which she believes things can be done and help can be provided through management.
