Claudia Sheinbaum Criticizes U.S. Ambassador's Inconsistencies

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, emphasized the importance of coherence in official statements, mentioning that there must be logic and consistency in what officials express. She also recalled that Mexico is a free and sovereign country, highlighting the existing coordination between the Mexican Government and Joe Biden's administration in seeking to strengthen security in the region.

Sheinbaum Pardo expressed her disagreement with the statements made by the U.S. ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, pointing out discrepancies in his assertions from one day to the next, especially on issues such as judicial reform and security in Mexico. These remarks were made during her participation in La Mañanera del Pueblo at the National Palace, after the country’s Foreign Secretary sent a letter of protest to the Embassy over Salazar's comments.

In a press conference, Ken Salazar criticized the "Hugs, not Bullets" strategy implemented by former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and revealed that during his tenure he did not accept a $32 million aid offered by Joe Biden's government to combat arms and drug trafficking between the two nations. The ambassador highlighted the importance of investing in police forces to combat corruption and improve security in the country.

In light of these assertions, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo recalled the positive statements Salazar previously made about cooperation between the two nations for the capture of significant organized crime targets. She underscored the importance of high-level dialogue between Mexico and the United States on issues such as drug trafficking, arms, migration, and security, emphasizing that despite being trading partners, there is no subordination, but rather coordination for the benefit of both nations.
