Controversy Over Police Authority Transfer in Mexico

The director of the magazine Voz y Voto criticizes the transfer of police powers to an administrative agency, arguing that it is contrary to international treaties on human rights.

The director of the magazine Voz y Voto has expressed that transferring police and investigative powers to an administrative body goes against all logic and, moreover, contradicts international treaties on the protection of human rights.

In his statements, the director emphasized that this measure puts at risk the effectiveness and autonomy of the entities responsible for ensuring security and justice in the country. Additionally, he pointed out that such a transfer could favor political interference in fundamental decisions for citizenship.

"It is crucial to preserve the independence of the institutions responsible for guaranteeing security and transparency in investigations. Any attempt to weaken their autonomy goes against the fundamental principles of a rule of law," stated the director of the magazine.

In light of these statements, various experts in law and security have expressed their concern about the potential negative consequences that this decision could entail. Likewise, they have called for respect for international standards regarding the protection of human rights and for guaranteeing the independence of the bodies responsible for administering justice.
