INE Calls for Budget Sensitivity for 2025 Elections

The National Electoral Institute (INE) has requested the Chamber of Deputies to consider sensitively the budget of 13 billion pesos intended to organize the election of ministers, judges, and magistrates in 2025. Guadalupe Taddei Zavala, the president councilor of the INE, expressed in a press conference the importance of coordination between both parties and sensitivity to the cost of the electoral process.

The president councilor stated that they will seek a meeting with the Chamber of Deputies, despite the opinions of Sergio GutiƩrrez Luna, president of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Deputies, who suggested that the election could take place with a budget lower than the proposed 13 billion pesos.

"It would be irresponsible to say yes, we can manage with one, two, three, four, five, whatever it is, up to this moment where the budget activities were left, those were in this agreement (of 13 billion) that we took internally, it needs to be reviewed again," Taddei Zavala asserted in response to the statements regarding a possible reduced budget.

The INE plans to resume the judicial election on November 20 and is considering alternatives such as collaboration with public electoral bodies to ensure the financial health of the electoral process. The president of the INE mentioned the importance of maintaining legal stability and the need to make strategic decisions, such as the installation of polling stations or the implementation of voting centers.

Additionally, it was reported that a meeting will be requested both with legislators and the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) to address this very important issue on the electoral calendar.
