The leader of Morena in the Chamber of Deputies, Ricardo Monreal, caused a stir by sharing images of himself using a motorcycle as a means of transportation, after acknowledging that he regularly uses a helicopter. Monreal posted on social media photos of himself getting onto the motorcycle in response to criticisms of his use of private aircraft.
In an interview, Monreal admitted his preference for private vehicles, mentioning that he does so both in his tenure as governor and now. In light of the criticisms, the lawmaker stated, "Yes, it's true, I occasionally use private-type vehicles. I have never liked to hide, I am not a hypocrite."
This gesture by Monreal has been interpreted in various ways; some see it as a way to align with the austerity positions promoted by his party, while others consider it an attempt to repair a damaged image. Monreal emphasized that his helicopter transfers do not incur expenses for the State or the Chamber of Deputies.
The topic has generated controversy as other members of Morena have avoided the use of private aircraft since the president criticized these practices. However, Monreal defended his stance, stating that he does not see the need to hide his actions: "It was the use of private transportation that I do frequently, you might see me often."
