President Claudia Sheinbaum criticized the use of a helicopter by the coordinator of the Morena Deputies, Ricardo Monreal, stating that an example should be given to society and that there should not be a wealthy government with a poor populace. Monreal defended himself by saying it was a favor to a friend and that public resources were not used.
Sheinbaum expressed her position during a conference this Friday, emphasizing the need for austerity and transparency in public service. For his part, Monreal issued an apology video on social media, acknowledging the situation and promising to avoid a recurrence in the future to not affect the transformation movement he is part of.
The legislator was seen boarding the helicopter along with another Morena deputy, Pedro Haces, who was also recently involved in a controversy over an alleged 'phantom vote' in the Chamber of Deputies. In this regard, Sheinbaum underscored the importance of constantly reviewing and improving the actions of public servants due to the social scrutiny they are subject to.
Monreal also apologized to Morena supporters and members who may have felt offended by the situation. In a message sent through his social media, he stressed the importance of rising to the challenges and challenges the country faces in this phase of political transition.
