New Security Plan Unveiled in Álvaro Obregón

Last Friday, the mayor of Álvaro Obregón, Javier López Casarín, presented a security plan that focuses on strengthening collaboration among authorities, citizens, and business sectors to create safe environments. During a little over a month in office, he has established close relationships with the Secretariat of Citizen Security, the Attorney General's Office, and the C5, as well as with organizations like the Citizen Council of Mexico City and the Association of Banks of Mexico.

In López Casarín's words, 'Without political determination, a clear strategy for confronting crime, and the absence or deficiency of technological capabilities, it is difficult to achieve significant advances in security.' He emphasized that the construction of peace can no longer solely depend on police measures, but it is necessary to involve the community as a whole.

Although Álvaro Obregón is not among the municipalities with the highest rates of serious crimes, the mayor mentioned that there is still much to be done. When presenting his Comprehensive Security Strategy 360, he revealed the precarious conditions of the Base Plata Monitoring Center in the demarcation, with thousands of cameras out of service, obsolete servers, and outdated incident capture methods.

The security plan proposed by López Casarín includes the use of advanced technology such as interconnected video surveillance systems, drones for monitoring in hard-to-reach areas, and license plate reading arches to detect stolen vehicles. However, he stressed that citizen participation and political will will be fundamental aspects for the success of this strategy.
