Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) has been instructed by the National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information, and Protection of Personal Data (INAI) to disclose the amount of fuel sent to Cuba during the administration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, as well as to clarify the shipments made during the first month of Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo's management.
According to INAI, the request for this information came from a citizen, and Pemex responded claiming that it had no record of the requested data in its files. The specific request included details such as the amount of fuel, its commercial value, dates of shipment and receipt, information about the individuals responsible for the shipments, budget item, commercial conditions, and amounts.
Despite the request referring to statements made by President López Obrador regarding shipments, Pemex stated that it does not contemplate the possibility of benefiting foreign countries, entities, companies, or institutions with donations of oil products or fuels, and therefore, did not find the required documentation.
After receiving the citizen's complaint about Pemex's refusal to provide the information, the chief commissioner of INAI, Adrián Alcalá Méndez, examined the case and determined that, according to regulations, foreign countries or organizations can be recipients of donations in cases that benefit Pemex or in humanitarian assistance situations framed within international agreements.
The INAI Plenary unanimously revoked Pemex's response and requested that a thorough and detailed search be conducted in all competent areas of the company to provide the requester with the required information.
