The Archbishop of Puebla, Víctor Sánchez Espinosa, condemned the feminicide of the girl Génesis Mei Ling, which occurred in the municipality of Cuautlancingo, and expressed his sorrow for the recent acts of violence in the region. During the Sunday mass at the Cathedral this Sunday, the archbishop emphasized that violence remains present in society, especially in cases of murders in the Puebla capital that affect the most vulnerable.
"Violence sadly continues in our city, in our state. Children, including girls, appear murdered or disappeared every eight days; I pray for them and their families," he stated before the parishioners in his sermon. The case of Génesis Mei Ling shocked the community after the 10-year-old girl disappeared on January 12 and was found dead three days later in her own building, showing signs of violence and torture.
According to preliminary reports, a neighbor reportedly confessed that her husband, Luis Ángel N., had kept the girl kidnapped to abuse her and subsequently killed her. So far, the whereabouts of the alleged perpetrator remain unknown. This tragic incident adds to a series of feminicides that have targeted minors in Puebla during the year 2024.
Between January and November of last year, 42 feminicides were recorded in the region, of which four affected minors. The State Attorney General's Office (FGE) reported that these cases were concentrated in September. Some of the mentioned incidents include the murder of 14-year-old Alison Amayrani in Huejotzingo; the discovery of a nine-year-old girl alongside her mother in Xicotepec, both murdered with a machete; and the discovery of a 16-year-old girl in Cuetzalan showing signs of sexual abuse.
