At 3:00 PM on Monday, the formation of tropical storm 'Kristy' was reported near the south-southwest of Acapulco, after this Guerrero region was hit by hurricane 'John', causing severe damage. Currently, the center of tropical storm 'Kristy' is located more than 400 kilometers from Acapulco and Lázaro Cárdenas.
It is forecasted that the storm's circulation will cause heavy rains in Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, and Guerrero, as well as precipitation in Nayarit. According to Conagua Clima, intense rains are expected in the Central Table, specifically in the Valley of Mexico.
According to reports, 'Kristy' is expected to remain a tropical storm until Tuesday, October 22, and to intensify into a category 1 hurricane by Wednesday, October 23, moving away from the coasts of Guerrero and Michoacán.
The route map shared by Conagua Clima indicates that 'Kristy' could reach category 2 as a hurricane, but it will already be far from Mexico. Tropical storm 'Kristy' originated near the coasts of Guerrero and Michoacán, with maximum winds of 65 km/h and moving west at 28 km/h.
Guerrero, one of the states most affected by rain, storms, and cyclones, suffered severe damage in the port of Acapulco and in other municipalities after the passage of 'Otis' in October 2023 and 'John' this year, causing water supply problems, power outages, and impacting reconstruction efforts.
