New Mexican Adaptation of 'The Office' Announced

Amazon MGM Studios and the production company Máquina Vega announced that they are working on the first Mexican version of the successful comedy series "The Office," which will be titled "La Oficina." This adaptation joins other versions from countries such as France, Australia, Poland, Chile, and Germany.

Although the cast of "La Oficina" and the exact release date on Amazon Prime Video have not yet been revealed, some details about the plot of the series are known. The Mexican adaptation will be led by screenwriter Marcos Bucay, who expressed that they are celebrating Mexican office culture and promises a surprise for viewers by reinventing the original format of the series.

Alonso Aguilar, director of Mexico Originals at Amazon Studios, has assured that the Mexican version of "The Office" will exceed audience expectations and leave loyal fans of this television comedy amazed. The series will be set in a family-owned company in Aguascalientes called 'Jabones Olimpo,' showcasing the daily life of employees struggling to keep it afloat despite the lack of leadership from their manager Jerónimo Ponce III.

Gary Alazraki, the series director, shared in an interview his interest in adapting "The Office" since he purchased the DVDs of the original British version in 2003, considering it "the boldest comedy" he has seen in his life. With this new Mexican version, Amazon Prime Video seeks to continue the successful formula of the original series that premiered in 2001 in Great Britain and starred Ricky Gervais.
