The Guanajuato Prosecutor's Office stated that it will not give respite to criminals and acted quickly to capture the sexual abuser of a young woman after a video of the attack went viral. The harassment incident occurred in Celaya on Sunday, February 2, around 6:00 PM, when the young woman was approached by a man identified as Federico Esteban N., 45 years old.
In the images from security cameras, the man can be seen getting out of a white vehicle and approaching the young woman from behind as she attempted to enter her house in the Zona de Oro neighborhood. Without saying a word, the assailant bit the victim's buttocks and quickly fled in his car.
After the video was shared on social media, the Prosecutor's Office was criticized for initially refusing to accept the young woman's complaint, arguing that there was no crime to pursue. However, following media pressure, the abuser was captured thanks to the swift action of the authorities.
The affected young woman had to file the complaint twice, as on the first attempt they did not want to accept it. Finally, the abuser was arrested and placed at the disposal of a judge for the alleged crime of sexual assault in Celaya. The Guanajuato Prosecutor's Office reiterated its commitment to fighting gender violence and assured that it will not allow impunity in cases that threaten the safety and dignity of women.
