After the diffusion of a video on social media that generated public outrage, the Attorney General's Office of Guanajuato issued a statement condemning an act of aggression and announcing the start of an investigation. The Attorney General identified and detained Federico Esteban, 45 years old, as the aggressor who attacked a young woman on February 2, 2025, in Celaya. This individual has been placed at the disposal of a judge for the crime of sexual abuse.
The Institute for Women (IMUG) joined the investigations, condemning the aggression and offering comprehensive attention to the victim. They emphasized that violence against women is unacceptable and that there will be no tolerance or impunity for those who perpetrate it.
The incident, captured by security cameras, shows a man getting out of a white vehicle, approaching the victim as she attempted to enter her home, and biting her on the buttock before fleeing. The reaction on social media was one of outrage, and the initial response of the authorities was criticized, such as the apparent rejection of the report at the Regional Attorney's Office in Celaya under the argument that no crime had occurred as such.
This case underscores the importance of authorities acting diligently in response to reports of gender-based violence, as well as the need for greater awareness and training in assisting victims.
