On Wednesday morning, in the Ciudadela neighborhood of Celaya, Álvaro Fernando Coria Jiménez, chief of the mayor Juan Miguel Ramírez Sánchez's escorts, was shot dead. Following the attack, emergency services confirmed that Coria Jiménez showed no vital signs when they arrived at the scene.

Immediately after identifying the victim, a security operation was launched at various points in Celaya, involving municipal, state, and federal forces. One hour after the incident, the mayor's personal secretary, Jesús Paz Gómez, announced the commander’s death.

The mayor, Juan Miguel Ramírez Sánchez, condemned the crime and extended his condolences to the victim's family. He highlighted Coria Jiménez's work within the aide group assigned to the Municipal Police, responsible for safeguarding the mayor's security. He assured that they will work in collaboration with state and federal authorities to clarify the homicide and strengthen security in the area.

Celaya has been shaken in recent months by a wave of violence, and this murder is part of a series of violent events that have caused concern among the population. In a meeting following the attack, the mayor was accompanied by various military and civilian authorities, who committed to strengthening security measures in the affected area.
