An incident during a political visit in Chilpancingo sparked controversy on social media after videos circulated showing a brawl in which a reporter was allegedly assaulted, while the leader of the Citizens' Movement, Jorge Álvarez Máynez, left the scene.
The footage led to accusations that the politician "fled," though other versions emerged that nuanced the events.
Alejandro Moreno, national leader of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), was one of the main critics of the incident. In his post, he wrote: "Have you all noticed that @AlvarezMaynez, the leader of @MovCiudadanoMX, always runs away when there are problems? In Chilpancingo, during his visit, a fight broke out and he fled."
Moreno also questioned Máynez's leadership abilities, stating: "if he gets scared by a street fight, imagine what he would do with the country's real problems," in a message that quickly went viral and polarized opinions.
In turn, Jorge Álvarez Máynez rejected the accusations. Through social media, he stated: "a fight broke out in Chilpancingo during his visit and he fled." In an initial response, he claimed: "the video shows the opposite."
Some support Moreno's version, while others argue that the videos show Máynez approaching his vehicle and waiting for the altercation to end before leaving, which keeps the controversy over what happened open.
Máynez also linked the episode to past precedents, such as the collapse of a stage in 2024, assuring that the Citizens' Movement leader reacts the same way under pressure.
Furthermore, he claimed he remained at the site until the situation was under control: "I waited for the brawl (not my own) to end before leaving."
Meanwhile, users on social media have offered divided interpretations.
