In the capital of Colima, reporter Patricia Ramírez González was brutally shot and killed while working in a food establishment on October 30 around 2:00 PM. The State Attorney General's Office initiated an investigation to bring the responsible party for this terrible crime to justice. Known on social media as Paty Bunbury, the journalist became another victim of the growing violence against communicators in Mexico.
The events occurred in a food business located at the intersection of Gabino Barreda and Gómez Farías streets in the La Atrevida neighborhood. According to preliminary reports, an armed assailant arrived at the scene, fired at Ramírez González, and quickly fled. State Police agents arrived at the establishment and found the woman severely injured, confirming her death at the scene.
The State Attorney General's Office presented itself at the crime scene to gather evidence and begin an exhaustive investigation to clarify the motives behind the attack and bring the responsible parties to justice. This new homicide adds to that of journalist Mauricio Cruz Solís, who was killed minutes after interviewing the mayor of Uruapan, Michoacán, Carlos Manzo, about a fire at the Tariácuri market.
The crime against Ramírez González has highlighted the dangerous situation facing journalists in Mexico, a country where attacks on press freedom and journalistic work have taken a high toll in human lives.
