Mexican journalist Patricia Ramírez González, known as Paty Bunbury, was murdered on Wednesday afternoon in the capital of Colima, western Mexico. This violent act occurred just 24 hours after authorities reported the shooting death of reporter Mauricio Cruz Solís in the state of Michoacán.
The Colima State Attorney's Office has initiated an investigation into the homicide of Paty Bunbury, who was at a food retail establishment where she also worked. The incident took place around 2:00 PM, when an armed man entered the establishment and shot at her. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, she sadly passed away.
In response to this tragic event, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has urged authorities to conduct a thorough and credible investigation. They have focused on documenting this violent act against 'Paty Bunbury,' highlighting that it occurred in a concerning context, just one day after the murder of Mauricio Cruz Solís.
Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum has made it clear that she will not allow these deaths to go unpunished, while the UN office in Mexico has also strongly condemned these acts of violence. Amidst the shock, efforts are being made to clarify the motives behind this attack and bring those responsible to justice.
