The Attorney General's Office of the State of Colima reported that it has initiated an investigation to clarify the murder of communicator Patricia Ramírez González, 39 years old, recognized in the region for her coverage of entertainment and culture in several local media.
The crime took place on Wednesday, October 30, at a food establishment in the La Atrevida neighborhood in the capital of Colima, where she was attacked. Patricia, also known as Paty Bunbury, is the second journalist murdered in Mexico during Claudia Sheinbaum's term, which began on October 1.
According to preliminary reports, an armed man entered the establishment around 2:00 PM, at the intersection of Gabino Barrera and Gómez Farías streets. Despite the prompt arrival of state police officers after the emergency call, the communicator lost her life due to gunshot wounds at the scene.
The Attorney General's Office detailed that forensic experts carried out the lifting of the body and collected evidence at the scene to initiate investigations that would determine the circumstances of the attack and identify the responsible parties.
The Committee for the Protection of Journalists issued a statement lamenting the murder and urging authorities to conduct a thorough and immediate investigation to find the culprits. This unfortunate event follows the recent murder of Mauricio Cruz Solís, a journalist with Minuto x Minuto in Michoacán, which has also generated shock in the national and international community.
Since the year 2000 to date, 168 journalists have been murdered in Mexico in connection with their work, according to Article 19. This figure does not yet include the case of Paty Bunbury, with the last recorded being that of Mauricio Cruz.
