The Morena deputy and president of the Jurisdictional Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Eric Flores Cervantes, assured that due process will be guaranteed in the request for the removal of immunity against the former governor of Morelos, Cuauhtémoc Blanco. This statement arises after the government of Morelos requested the state Congress to dismiss prosecutor Uriel Carmona Gándara, who had filed the request for removal of immunity against Blanco.

Flores Cervantes emphasized that the Chamber of Deputies does not assign guilt nor judges, but merely determines whether it is appropriate or not to withdraw immunity from a legislator or public official. He clarified that the role of the Chamber is to provide the opportunity for an investigation into the case to be conducted.

In January 2023, Hugo Eric Flores Cervantes broke with Cuauhtémoc Blanco, whom he accused of various actions detrimental to the political force they belonged to at that time. Among the accusations was the imposition of Blanco's brother in the state leadership and the alleged commission of acts of corruption and illicit activities during his term as governor.

According to Flores Cervantes, work meetings with Cuauhtémoc Blanco usually ended in "drunkenness" that extended until late hours of the night. The now-Morena deputy described an environment of partying and political decisions driven by the arrogance and outbursts of the former governor.

After the dismissal of prosecutor Carmona Gándara, the Congress of Morelos appointed Edgar Antonio Maldonado Ceballos as the new state attorney general for the next 9 years. Maldonado Ceballos previously held the position of legal advisor to the Government of Morelos.

The Morelos Attorney General's Office had proceeded against Cuauhtémoc Blanco for the crime of attempted rape, based on evidence provided by the victim, who was identified as a half-sister of the former governor. Additionally, the victim's lawyer reported threats from Blanco's father and another half-brother.

In the case of Cuauhtémoc Blanco's removal of immunity, the Morelos Attorney General's Office is expected to confirm its request within a period of three days so that the legal process can advance in the Chamber of Deputies.
