Detention of Major Drug Trafficker 'El Chavo' Félix in Culiacán

Juan Carlos Félix Gastélum, known as 'El Chavo' Félix and son-in-law of Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada, was arrested this Saturday, January 18, by elements of the National Guard and the Secretariat of Defense (Sedena) in the syndicate of Quilá, south of Culiacán, Sinaloa.

Considered the second most important man in 'El Mayo's' faction in the Pacific Cartel and a trusted man of Ismael Zambada Siqueiros, alias 'El Mayito Flaco', Félix was captured in an operation on Guadalupe Victoria street, between 12 de Octubre street and Lázaro Cárdenas, in Quilá, around 3:58 PM.

The arrested drug trafficker is described as a man 1.88 meters tall, fair-skinned, of medium build, with black hair, a beard, and a mustache. After his arrest, Juan Carlos Félix Gastélum was handed over to the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime of the Attorney General's Office (FGR).

Along with the capture of 'El Chavo' Félix, two other operations were carried out in Mazatlán and Villa Juárez, in Navolato, where federal forces seized high-powered weapons and armored trucks used by criminal cells of 'Los Chapitos'.

Omar García Harfuch, head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, confirmed the arrest of Félix Gastélum through a post on his social media. He indicated that the action was led by Sedena with the aim of reducing violence in Sinaloa, in collaboration with the Security Cabinet.

Juan Carlos Félix Gastélum is married to María Teresa Zambada Ortiz, daughter of Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada, an important leader of the Sinaloa Cartel. Despite being a trusted man of 'El Mayito Flaco' and a key figure in the criminal organization, 'El Chavo' Félix does not face any criminal charges in the United States. His name has been mentioned in various songs that narrate his participation in activities related to drug trafficking.
