Culiacán Operation Dismantles Criminal Cell

In Culiacán, two men close to 'La Perris', the security chief of the criminal group 'Los Chapitos', were captured during an operation by the armed forces. This action led to the detention of six members of a criminal cell working for 'Los Chapitos'. During the operation, carried out by elements of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, two properties were secured where high-caliber weapons, drones, explosives, and armored trucks were found.

One of the properties was equipped with a monitoring system that collected images from video cameras on the streets of the Las Quintas residential area, used as a refuge by hitmen from the 'Los Chapitos' cartel amid confrontations with another criminal group. The operation, which involved personnel from the Mexican Army and the National Guard, started early in the morning following reports of shootings in Culiacán.

Gunfire was heard in several popular neighborhoods around Las Quintas, leading to the rapid intervention of military forces. Streets were blocked, and six people were detained in two properties, one of which housed the monitoring equipment and another where Army-exclusive weapons, cartridges, drones, explosive devices, and armored vehicles were found. The operation, which raised concerns in the area throughout the day, concluded in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, in another context, two sons of the well-known Mexican drug trafficker Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, facing drug trafficking charges in the United States, are negotiating a deal with the federal government. Ovidio Guzmán López, 34, and Joaquín Guzmán López, 38, are in the process of discussing a possible plea agreement, as confirmed by their lawyers in a Chicago court. Although both have pleaded not guilty, negotiations to reach a deal have already begun.
