Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Escapes Again from Authorities

Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Escapes Again from Authorities

Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar, son of 'El Chapo' Guzmán, is fearing betrayal from his closest associates and has begun to act similarly, according to an interview. This would not be his first episode of evasion from authorities, as ten years ago, 'El Chapito' made a spectacular escape.

On February 6, 2014, in a restaurant in Culiacán, Sinaloa, a joint operation by the Army and security forces took place following reports of armed individuals at the location, including Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar. According to The Wall Street Journal, he disguised himself as a waiter with an apron to remain undetected and thus evade authorities during the more than nine-hour raid at the seafood restaurant.

Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar is the second most wanted drug trafficker by the DEA, with a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to his capture. Although he has been close to being captured, he escaped during a series of operations in Culiacán through a tunnel, just as it is believed his father did in 2015. It is speculated that Guzmán Salazar is injured and under constant tension due to the pressure from the U.S. government to curb drug trafficking, and the recent designation of Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations.

In another operation, Kevin Alonso Gil Acosta, 'El 200', who was responsible for the security of Los Chapitos and for coordinating the purchase of weapons and ammunition, was captured. 'El 200' was arrested in Culiacán by the Mexican Army and the National Guard, leading to the belief that Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar is living in a state of constant nervous crisis and constant surveillance, fearing for his capture and the consequences it would bring.
