Prosecutor Alejandro Gertz Manero revealed details that were previously unknown: the four times Zambada requested his extradition from the Biden administration. Gertz Manero explained that Zambada was kidnapped on Mexican territory by Joaquín Guzmán López, son of El Chapo Guzmán, with the complicity of the governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya. He was deceived under the pretense of a supposed meeting and taken to the United States in July.
In response to Zambada's blackmail to be repatriated, Gertz Manero intervened. However, there are pending matters and potential future actions by the drug trafficker. Zambada's second letter generated more accusations against high-ranking officials and politicians. The third response from Zambada is still awaited, increasing uncertainty around the government and Mexico.
The Attorney General's Office opened an investigation against Zambada and Guzmán López for crimes such as illegal flight, unlawful use of aeronautical facilities, violation of immigration and customs laws, as well as homicide and deprivation of liberty. Gertz Manero's appearance at the National Palace managed to halt the plummeting fall of Sheinbaum's government, temporarily reinforcing the regime.
Despite Gertz Manero's intervention, challenges and uncertainties about Zambada's future actions persist. Political communication faces a crisis exacerbated by the connection of a lawyer for Zambada with Morena figures, adding tension to the situation. Although Gertz Manero temporarily managed to contain the crisis, new challenges loom on the horizon.
