On a violent Sunday morning in Sinaloa, narcomantas appeared in Culiacán, Mazatlán, and Elota addressed to President Claudia Sheinbaum, accusing the drug cartels of each other and spreading photographs of politicians linked to drug trafficking. The messages question the actions of the Mexican Army in the mountainous area of the state of Durango that borders Sinaloa.
One of the banners was placed on the pedestrian bridge located at Ejercito Mexicano Avenue and Río Piaxtla Street in Mazatlán. Another was placed on the pedestrian bridge of the Luis Donaldo Colosio bypass and Santa Rosa Avenue, also in Mazatlán. The third banner appeared in Culiacán, on the bridge of Obregón Avenue and the bypass known as La Costerita, south of the city.
One of the banners displayed photographs of the leaders of the drug trafficking cartels, similar to leaflets dropped days earlier in Culiacán from an airplane. The banners were removed by elements of the Mexican Army, without providing information about the content of the texts.
In addition, two corpses were found on the Culiacán-Eldorado highway, and another injured man was found in the Real de Minas neighborhood in Culiacán. Another man identified as Toribio was killed with a knife, and his body was found in front of the restaurant area on the Altata boardwalk in Navolato.
Thousands of people marched in Culiacán demanding the resignation of Governor Rubén Rocha Moya and Mayor Juan de Dios Gómez Mendívil. The peaceful demonstration included families asking for peace for the city and expressing their dissatisfaction with the results of the rulers. It is the second protest march after the violent event on Thursday, January 23, where part of the state government palace was damaged.
Videos circulated on social media where protesters burned a piñata of Rubén Rocha Moya in protest of the murder of a father and his two sons that occurred in January. In one video, a member of Morena defends the governor and dismisses the protest, asking for support for Rocha. The demonstration concluded with an incursion into the government palace.
