After the alleged escape of Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar, known as 'El Chapito', leader of the criminal group 'Los Chapitos' and son of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán Loera, speculation has arisen about how and where the tunnel through which he apparently escaped from authorities is located, emulating the evasion strategy used by his father.
According to local reports cited by La Saga, the tunnel through which 'El Chapito' supposedly escaped starts from a property located on Eustaquio Buelna Avenue, between Economistas and Sociólogos streets in the Tierra Blanca neighborhood of Culiacán, Sinaloa. When entering this address in Google Maps, a house with the number 2222 appears, which corresponds to a two-story house with a black gate and glass railing on the upper floor.
The structure of this residence resembles another property located at number 285 of the private Artesanos, between Central Avenue and Teniente Juan de la Barrera Norte Avenue. It is estimated that the route of the tunnel through which Iván Archivaldo Guzmán allegedly escaped covers at least five blocks, equivalent to approximately eight minutes of walking.
La Saga reported details about the characteristics of the alleged escape tunnel, including the presence of rails, possibly used to move carts that removed the excavated soil, as well as the existence of several passages under bathtubs of at least five homes, highlighting the tunnel found on Constituyente Emiliano García Street in the Libertad neighborhood.
This tunnel bears similarities to the ingenious escape that 'El Chapo' executed in 2015 when he evaded the surveillance of the No. 1 Almoloya Federal Social Rehabilitation Center through a passage that started from the bathroom of his cell. He was later apprehended in Mazatlán and extradited to the United States in 2017, where he remains in custody.
Moreover, it is mentioned that the tunnel of Iván Archivaldo Guzmán presents similar characteristics to the passages used by his father, suggesting a continuity in the criminal escape strategy within the family.
