In Culiacán, Sinaloa, a difficult night was experienced during a strong armed confrontation between criminal groups that extended from the community of Mocorito to Pericos. During this incident, armed men set fire to three vehicles, disrupting traffic. It has not yet been officially confirmed whether there are fatalities or injuries, nor if those allegedly responsible have been detained.
Additionally, clashes, blockades, and a strong presence of armed civilians were reported at different points in the region, as well as intense mobilization of security forces. Local journalists reported the discovery of an abandoned truck with several bodies inside in Villa Juárez, Navolato, an area where the greatest clashes were reported. In Mazatlán, an armed group attacked several municipal police officers in a taco shop, leaving two agents dead and four injured.
During the day, clashes were recorded in Badiraguato, as well as blockades in Salvador Alvarado, Escuinapa, and El Rosario. Amid this violence, Sinaloa is immersed in a dispute between factions of the Sinaloa Cartel, specifically between "Los Chapitos" and "La Mayiza," following the detention of Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada in July of last year. This conflict has generated a series of violent incidents in the region.
In light of this situation, the State Secretariat of Public Security reported that federal and local authorities are working inter-institutionally to restore security as soon as possible. The population is advised to remain calm and avoid traveling through high-risk areas. Local media reported an intense mobilization of federal and state forces in various municipalities of the region.
