Authorities in Ecatepec, State of Mexico, rescued a Bengal tiger cub after neighbors alerted them to strange roars coming from a house. Upon entering, they confirmed the presence of a tiger cub on the property. The animal was in poor conditions. The feline was found in a small backyard of about four square meters, where it was restless, constantly walking and roaring. A video spread on social media showed the conditions the animal was in, causing concern among users and wildlife defenders. During the operation, authorities asked the alleged owner to prove legal ownership of the tiger; however, he could not provide the corresponding documentation. Faced with this situation, the man, identified as Carlos “N”, 36 years old, voluntarily handed over the animal to the authorities, who proceeded to secure it. After the rescue, both the animal and the case were handed over to the Public Ministry of the Attorney General's Office, where an investigation was opened to determine possible legal responsibilities. The tiger cub will be channeled to a shelter or specialized space where it will receive proper care while its situation is defined. Additionally, authorities reiterated the call to report these types of situations and reminded that possession of wildlife without the corresponding permits is a crime in Mexico. The discovery surprised residents of the area and mobilized different security corporations. Denunciation over roars triggers operation. According to reports, the events occurred during the early morning, when neighbors of the Villas de Guadalupe Xalostoc colony notified authorities about sounds that seemed to come from a feline. Following the complaint, municipal police elements, in coordination with state authorities, went to the home located in the indicated area.
