Community Unites for River Clean-Up in Guadalupe

An "army" of people, including officials and volunteers, came together to carry out a cleaning day at the La Silla River, specifically in the 25 de Noviembre neighborhood in Guadalupe. In a joint effort, personnel from various municipal secretariats, university students, and civil associations committed to cleaning several stretches of the river. During the activity, a large amount of trash, waste, tires, and even furniture that had been thrown on the riverbanks was successfully removed.

Groups of young people equipped with picks, shovels, and hoes took charge of removing weeds and invasive plants that were harming the environment. Zeico Rodríguez, director of Environment and Sustainability for the municipality, thanked the volunteers for their collaboration and emphasized the importance of synergy between the municipal government and the community, highlighting that it is essential to raise awareness among citizens about the importance of caring for the river.

For its part, the Public Services Secretariat put up signs warning about fines for those who use the river as a dump, reminding that it is a protected natural area. In collaboration with the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Urban Development, the Secretariat of Education, and the DIF System, the community was encouraged to report any incidents in this regard.

At the end of January, it was detected that the river was receiving a significant load of polluting waters, which was evidenced through social media posts by groups such as Comunidad Azteca and Gran Parque la Silla. In light of this situation, the need to protect the natural environment and the wildlife that inhabits the area was highlighted.
