Governor Samuel García reported that approximately 1 million 472 thousand children reside in Nuevo León, of which a significant proportion faces various health problems. For example, one in three children is born with some degree of hearing loss, one in a thousand has heart diseases, and 125 die from cancer. Additionally, there are problems of overweight, obesity, and developmental disorders in two out of ten minors.
In light of this situation, the creation of a new Children's Hospital in Guadalupe was announced, which will provide specialized and comprehensive care to minors under 18 years of age, including adolescents. García emphasized that Nuevo León has greater universal health coverage for children compared to other Mexican states, covering 1 million 200 thousand beneficiaries who did not have IMSS, ISSSTE, or other health insurance.
The Children's Hospital, unique in its kind, will be located in a Children’s District that will house various facilities such as parks, the Children’s Advocacy Office, and the Rayados Stadium. With an investment of 2 billion 500 million pesos in its first phase, this hospital will have 308 beds, 29 specialty consulting rooms, eight operating rooms, a Burn Unit, among other services.
García highlighted the importance of this hospital, as Nuevo León lacks a facility dedicated exclusively to the care of minors. The Children's Hospital is expected to serve more than 468 thousand children each year, performing more than 11 thousand surgical procedures annually, attending to emergency and specialty consultations, and having more than 6 thousand 500 hospital discharges annually.
