The Governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, and the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, signed a historic agreement for more than 6,400 million pesos to modernize the irrigation systems of Guanajuato's countryside. The agreement involves starting this year and concluding in 2028.
"If as Governor I have to attend an event of the servants of the nation with the President to sign a water agreement that Guanajuato so desperately needs, I will do it," said García Muñoz Ledo.
CONAGUA is collaborating with municipal presidents and state authorities to identify the necessary works in drinking water and flood prevention. On the other hand, President Sheinbaum Pardo thanked the producers of Irrigation District 011 for their efforts in modernizing agricultural irrigation.
Additionally, the Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCC) in Salamanca was inaugurated, which will allow for the recovery of more than 120 million cubic meters of water. Approximately 15 billion pesos will be allocated for the construction of the aqueduct from the Solís dam to León, benefiting five municipalities.
The combined cycle plant has a capacity to generate 927.10 MW, sufficient to supply nearly 1.9 million inhabitants. Its technology reduces CO2 emissions and optimizes water usage, saving more than 7 million cubic meters annually.
During this tour, the General Director of the Federal Electricity Commission, María Esther Calleja Alor, and the Federal Secretary of Energy, Luz Elena González Escobar, among other officials, were present. Governor García Muñoz Ledo emphasized the importance of working together to benefit Mexico and Guanajuato.
As part of the Priority Welfare Programs, an agreement was signed between CONAGUA, Irrigation District 011, and state authorities. An investment of more than 6,400 million pesos is planned during the six-year term to modernize agriculture in Guanajuato and meet the energy demand in the Bajío region with the new combined cycle plant. The CCC began operations on February 14.
