Mobility in Mexico faces a significant crisis, with problems such as congestion in 80% of cities, insufficient and inefficient public transport, low adoption of electric vehicles, and an increase in pollutant emissions. Transport is one of the main sources of emissions in the country, with constant traffic present in most cities. Public transport is characterized as deficient, unsafe, and with insufficient coverage. Additionally, there are few incentives for the adoption of clean technologies and insufficient regulation regarding energy efficiency.
To address these challenges, the Alliance proposed four strategic axes: energy transition, cooperative sustainability, gender equity in mobility, and support for young innovators. The importance of working together with various sectors to find effective solutions is highlighted. It is crucial that states with automotive industries, such as Guanajuato, lead electromobility through the implementation of new regulations and technologies.
Among the proposed strategies is the strengthening of public transport through investments in infrastructure and electrification, promoting electric mobility through policies that facilitate the adoption of non-polluting vehicles, reducing vehicle congestion with alternatives for urban mobility, and improving energy efficiency through stricter regulations for both public and private transport. The aim is to promote innovation in mobility through partnerships between industry and government.
During a meeting between the Special Mobility Commission of the Congress of Guanajuato and the Alliance for Sustainable Mobility for All, these topics were discussed with the goal of building a legislative agenda that promotes effective solutions. MarĂa Isabel Studer Noguez, president of the Alliance, emphasized that transport in Mexico is responsible for 29% of carbon emissions, highlighting the urgency of changing the mobility model to address the climate emergency.
