Armed clash in Sinaloa leaves 13 criminals dead

An armed confrontation in Sinaloa left at least 13 suspected criminals dead, reported Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfuch on Monday amid the rising violence plaguing some regions of the country. Through his X account, the official confirmed that the clash between suspected criminals and security forces occurred shortly after noon in the municipality of Guasave. 'Operational personnel from Mexico's security cabinet were attacked by an armed group under a bridge,' García posted. In the same message, he detailed that nine people who had been kidnapped were also freed during the operation. Sinaloa has experienced an extended period of escalating violence due to confrontations between criminal groups fighting for control of routes for the trafficking and production of various drugs, including the deadly fentanyl, most of which is trafficked to the United States.
