New initiative to protect journalists in Guanajuato

Deputy Carlos Abraham Ramos Sotomayor emphasized the importance of strengthening protection for journalists and defenders, underscoring that the approved reform aims to effectively support those facing risks in their daily work. This initiative establishes the creation of the Special Protection Group for Human Rights Defenders and Journalists, whose function will be to protect those who are on the front lines informing and safeguarding society. The Group will be integrated into the Secretary of Security and Peace to implement and monitor the protection measures established by the State Council for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders and Journalists. The Public Security and Communications Commission approved the report that reforms the Public Security System Law, highlighting that this action aligns Guanajuato with the UN Goal 16, focused on ensuring the integrity and life of those who defend fundamental rights. The reform seeks not to be just a legal procedure but a practical tool adaptable to the real needs of society. To enrich the proposal, four regional forums have been scheduled in Irapuato, Silao, San Miguel de Allende, and Moroleón. These meetings aim to open spaces for direct dialogue with citizens and municipal authorities, thus strengthening the effective implementation of the initiative.
