The León Zoo (ZooLeón) has announced the establishment of a new Education Department for Conservation, which aims to improve species conservation and optimize the management of the zoo's facilities. This department will focus on training staff, designing conservation strategies, and creating educational programs aimed at promoting the care of wildlife and the park's environment.
As part of the XLII Congress of the Association of Zoos, Breeding Centers, and Aquariums of Mexico (AZCARM) 2024, the director of ZooLeón, José Rigoberto Montes Palomares, announced collaboration with Dr. Laura Barraza, a renowned international consultant in socio-environmental issues with extensive experience in conservation programs in various regions of the world. Dr. Barraza will provide specialized advice to strengthen the zoo's educational strategies.
The training, which will take place from January 29 to 31 at the facilities of ZooLeón, Parque de la Vida, aims to establish a master education plan for conservation. This plan will encompass conceptual, methodological, and operational aspects of the new department, in order to ensure the preservation of wildlife and promote the development of sustainable projects at the zoo.
With this initiative, the León Zoo seeks to reinforce its commitment to the care of species and the implementation of practices that foster sustainability. The ultimate goal is to consolidate its position as one of the leading zoos in Mexico, highlighting its focus on conservation and the welfare of the animals in its care.
