SuperLiga de la Salud: Combating Childhood Obesity

The state of Guanajuato has launched the SuperLiga de la Salud program as part of a comprehensive strategy to ensure a healthy and happy childhood. Governor Libia Denisse García Muñoz Ledo highlighted that this initiative seeks to prevent childhood obesity and promote healthy habits in primary education schools in collaboration with families and various institutions such as the State DIF, the Secretariat of Health, the Secretariat of Education, and the State Sports Commission (CODE).

This program includes vaccination of students with the required basic schedules, and the first brigades have already been deployed in various locations such as León, Celaya, Cortázar, Irapuato, Silao, and Guanajuato. Key actions of the program include reducing soda consumption, the gradual elimination of junk food in school shops, and promoting nutritional education in homes to instill healthy eating habits from childhood.

The program includes a series of activities within the schools in the state, such as weight and height measurements, nutritional evaluations, eye examinations, dental check-ups, active recesses that encourage physical exercise, and the promotion of healthy habits in general. The Governor emphasized the importance of learning to eat healthily from an early age and highlighted the need to change children's eating habits as one of the main objectives of the program.
