The municipal administration of León carried out the inauguration of the Valuation Council, an organization made up of experts and representatives from various sectors, with the aim of advising the Municipal Treasury in determining the value of properties and collecting property tax.
Mayor Ale Gutiérrez pointed out that this Council will serve as a space for consultation and opinion on real estate valuation, seeking to have the cadastral values reflect the real estate market more accurately and for citizens to have greater clarity about the amounts to be paid. She commented, “They provide certainty to the legal acts carried out in the Treasury, it is not the same for someone without knowledge to say something, as for you who are the experts to say it.”
The organization is made up of representatives from the College of Appraisers of León, the Association of Appraisers of Bajío, the College of Masters in Valuation of León, the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry Guanajuato Delegation (CMIC), as well as academic institutions and professional colleges.
The Valuation Council will be presided over by Graciela Rodríguez Flores, municipal treasurer, and will include the participation of officials from the Revenue and Cadastre area, as well as citizen advisors.
According to municipal authorities, the establishment of this body responds to the need to make transparent the criteria for collecting property tax; however, specific mechanisms for reviewing or adjusting the rates that citizens consider high have not been detailed.
Meanwhile, the local administration insists that the correct payment of property tax allows financing for public works and services in the city.
