Industrials of Nuevo León Address US Tariffs

The industrialists of Nuevo León expressed concern about the tariffs imposed by the United States on Mexico and Canada, although they noted that it is too early to assess the impact on the sector. Máximo Vedoya, president of Caintra, highlighted that these measures harm the Mexican industry, including that of Nuevo León.

In this regard, Vedoya supported the stance of the federal government and expressed confidence in the Mexico Plan presented by President Claudia Sheinbaum to address this situation and the observations from the United States regarding trade with Mexico. He expressed his support for the measures taken so far and emphasized the importance of continuing to support the federal government and President Sheinbaum.

On the other hand, Vedoya praised the establishment of the Metropolitan Environmental Commission in Nuevo León by Alicia Bárcena, Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources, with the aim of improving air quality in the region. He emphasized the need to work together, based on science and a technical approach, to address this issue comprehensively and in the long term.

Additionally, Vedoya stressed that no one benefits from the imposed tariffs and pointed to China as the main generator of imbalances in global trade due to its unfair practices. Instead of imposing tariffs among trading partners, he advocated for strengthening the North American region, improving its competitiveness, and encouraging the return of manufacturing from Asia to North America.
