The state of Nuevo León seeks to become a pioneer in the digitization of its magical towns. The Secretary of Tourism of the state government, Maricarmen Martínez Villarreal, emphasized the importance of implementing technology in tourist destinations to enhance the experience of visitors. Martínez Villarreal mentioned that five magical towns in the region could be the first to receive this innovation.
In a press conference to announce the Travel and Adventure Expo Festival and the National Congress of the Tourism Industry, which will be held in March, Martínez Villarreal shared her experience in a magical town where she faced difficulties in making credit card payments. In light of the upcoming significant tourism events in Monterrey, such as the FIFA World Cup 2026, there is a push to facilitate digital payments in destinations like Santiago, Bustamante, General Terán, Linares, and Zaragoza.
The project for the digitization of magical towns is expected to be ready in the coming months, with functionality tests before the FIFA World Cup 2026. Collaboration with financial institutions, such as BBVA, is crucial in this process of implementing technology in the tourist destinations of Nuevo León.
Maricela Gómez Seeman, general director of the Travel and Adventure Expo Festival and the National Congress of the Tourism Industry, highlighted that tourism involves a value chain made up of small and medium-sized enterprises, so working together is key. Joel Gómez Treviño, president of the Mexican Academy of Computer Law, mentioned that the hotel sector is increasingly relying on Artificial Intelligence to improve customer service, significantly reducing wait times.
