Monterrey Airport Achieves Historical Passenger Record

In 2024, the Monterrey International Airport reported an increase in demand for both domestic and international travel, reaching a historic record in departures. This 4.9% increase brought the total number of departures to 56,407, with 77.3% directed to domestic destinations and 22.7% to international ones. International flights also set a record, reaching 12,815, surpassing the previous mark from 2015.

The flow of passengers on outgoing flights in Monterrey grew significantly in 2024, with a 19% increase in international passengers surpassing one million for the first time that year. In total, the Monterrey International Airport recorded 6,737,565 passengers, consolidating itself as one of the main sending markets of travelers in Mexico.

The increase in the number of passenger departures is largely attributed to the economic dynamism of the region, which has attracted both national and foreign companies, strengthening the tourism sector. Maricela Gómez Seeman, general director of the Expo VI Travel and Adventure Festival, highlighted that this growth will continue in the coming years, driven by tourism events such as the National Congress of the Tourism Industry.

The National Congress of the Tourism Industry, scheduled for March 14, will address relevant topics such as Artificial Intelligence in Tourism, Empowerment of SMEs, and Scientific Tourism, among others. On the other hand, the Expo VI Travel and Adventure Festival, to be held on Saturday, March 15, and Sunday, March 16, at Cintermex, will bring together companies and governments from various regions of the country to promote their tourism services and establish business alliances. Attendance of more than 10,000 visitors interested in exploring options for their trips and events is expected.

The Expo and the Congress are projected as key events for the tourism industry and are estimated to generate an economic benefit of more than 70 million pesos in the city. Additionally, Monterrey Airport continues to show sustained growth, with international passenger departures registering double-digit increases year after year, highlighting a 32.5% increase in 2023.
