AI Boost in Tourism Nuevo León

Most businesses in the tourism sector of Nuevo León (NL) have not yet implemented artificial intelligence (AI) technology to offer users personalized offers and services. It is considered necessary to establish a joint strategy between the state government and private companies to boost tourism in the region.

Joel Gómez Treviño, president of the Mexican Academy of Computer Law, emphasized the importance of leveraging the economic capacity and university knowledge of Nuevo León to invest in AI and thus improve the tourist experience. According to him, the implementation of AI-based technological tools can enhance the traveler's experience and ensure qualitative and quantitative improvements for tourism operators.

At a press conference about the IV National Congress of the Tourism Industry (CONIT) and the VI Travel and Adventure Festival Expo, Gómez Treviño recommended that the state government implement AI on its tourism website to provide access to real-time chatbots and other technologies that encourage travel to Nuevo León.

He highlighted that while 80% of tourism companies in other countries in the region use AI tools, a large portion of businesses in Nuevo León do not, thus losing opportunities to attract more visitors and compete with other regions.

For her part, Maricela Gómez Seeman, general director of the VI Travel and Adventure Festival Expo, estimated that the planned events will generate an economic spillover of more than 70 million pesos. Companies and governments from various areas of the country will participate, presenting tourism proposals and forming alliances and business among the exhibitors.

During the congress, topics such as technology in tourism, the democratization of the sector, and the empowerment of micro, small, and medium enterprises in view of the FIFA World Cup 2026 will be addressed. In addition, aspects of the opportunities and risks of artificial intelligence in tourism will be discussed.
