The 2026 Football World Cup will bring significant economic benefits to Monterrey, aiding various sectors such as restaurants, entertainment centers, transportation, and local businesses. Although the city has over 13,000 hotel rooms and about 8,000 alternative accommodation spaces, demand during the event is expected to exceed the available supply.
Sebastián Colín, Director of Public Affairs at Airbnb, highlighted the importance of digital platforms like Airbnb to meet this growing demand. According to Colín, the World Cup will provide an opportunity to boost the local economy, generating benefits not only for those who rent out their spaces through Airbnb but also for other local businesses.
For every peso spent on accommodation through Airbnb, it is estimated that an additional three pesos will be generated in the local economy. A growth of 40 to 60 percent in accommodation supply in Monterrey is anticipated during the World Cup, with stays potentially extending for more than a month, depending on complementary activities to the event.
The IV National Congress of the Tourism Industry emphasized that events like the World Cup represent a significant opportunity to strengthen the tourism sector in the region. The massive arrival of fans promises not only excitement on the field but also unprecedented opportunities for small and medium local businesses to benefit from this important influx of visitors.
