WAS Co. Secures $1.5 Million in Funding to Tackle Pollution

The startup regiomontana WAS Co. has successfully raised 1.5 million dollars in a pre-seed venture capital investment round, reaching a valuation of 10 million dollars. Walter Mata, the company's CEO, announced that they are about to raise another 15 million dollars in their seed investment round.

In the first financing round, angel investors, owners of construction and cement companies, participated, including Garza Ponce and the Zambrano family, who have connections with potential customers or partners. WAS Co. was founded by Mata in 2019 after graduating from the University of Monterrey (UdeM), with the vision of addressing pollution problems caused by the construction industry in Monterrey.

Mata explained that their initial focus was to develop sustainable materials for construction, specifically with a focus on creating emission-free concrete cements from mining waste. He noted that the mining industry in China generates waste that they have managed to transform into construction materials.

Regarding commercial achievements, in 2024 WAS Co. recorded sales of 200 thousand dollars and is projected to reach between 500 thousand and 1 million dollars by 2025. Mata emphasized that currently, the company is focused on developing formulas and technology, without investing in CAPEX, aiming to position their products in the market. Once this positioning is achieved, they plan to establish production plants to expand their operations.
