Nuevo León promotes the construction of affordable housing

The state government of Nuevo León aims to address the deficit of 50,000 homes annually in the region by promoting the construction of economic and sustainable housing units in the vicinity of the stations of the three metro lines under development. Hernán Villarreal, Secretary of Mobility and Urban Planning of NL, emphasized that this strategy will not only contribute to improving mobility infrastructure but also address the housing shortage.

During the panel "Infrastructure is Development" at the Annual Meeting of Industrialists, Villarreal pointed out that the population growth in the region, due to migration from other parts of the country, has generated a significant housing deficit. He highlighted the importance of developing housing centers around transport stations, which already have educational, health, and public service infrastructure.

On the other hand, Alberto Moreno Gómez, president of Canadevi, mentioned that approximately 3.8 million Mexicans with incomes between 12,000 and 17,000 pesos per month are ready to acquire a home. However, due to the lack of construction of new housing units, they cannot access one. Moreno Gómez stressed that the lack of generation of well-being and assets for these people is partly due to the insufficiency of the credits granted, which do not cover the cost of a home.

In this regard, the members of Canadevi have a land reserve capable of accommodating the immediate construction of one million and fifty thousand homes, indicating significant potential to reduce the housing deficit in the region.
