Businessman Elon Musk recently expressed his opinion that it would be foolish to carry out a project that goes against his beliefs. Such comments, however, do not seem to concern the state administration, which remains watchful of the plans that the company Tesla may have in Nuevo León.
"We hope that in the coming months Tesla continues to advance with its plans. They have already released the new cars and we are keen to learn about their strategies for the plant in Nuevo León," mentioned Emmanuel Loo, Undersecretary of Investment in Economy. Loo stated that they are still in discussions with the company, and that many of Tesla's suppliers are already located in the region.
According to Loo, the cancellation of the Model 2 was a decision made by Tesla and only the company can evaluate it. The undersecretary expressed optimism regarding Tesla's future plans and the possibility that the company wishes to be close to its suppliers in Nuevo León.
Additionally, Loo announced the arrival of more companies to the state, mentioning that over 400 companies have recently visited Nuevo León, with the expectation of finalizing multiple agreements in the near future.
In the last quarter, Tesla announced the cancellation of production of the Model 2, a low-cost vehicle that was to be assembled at the Gigafactory in Nuevo León. During the presentation of the third quarter results for 2024, Elon Musk explained that the Model 2 project was not viable due to the price at which it was planned to be sold.
