David Martínez Guzmán Strengthens Position in Latin American Media

David Martínez Guzmán, a businessman with extensive experience in international investments, has acquired 7.8% of the shares of Grupo Televisa, becoming the third largest shareholder of the company. This acquisition, confirmed by the Securities and Exchange Commission of the United States (SEC), strengthens Martínez Guzmán's position in the Latin American media sector.

Martínez Guzmán is recognized for his involvement in significant companies such as ICA Tenedora, Telecom Argentina, Claro Argentina, and Grupo Clarín. Moreover, he is the founder and director of Fintech Advisory. His career in the telecommunications sector is characterized by gaining control of 70% of Telecom Argentina in 2016 and being a shareholder of Banco Sabadell since 2024.

Grupo Televisa, the company in which Martínez Guzmán has acquired shares, reported significant net earnings in the first nine months of 2024, reversing the losses from the previous year. In 2017, Forbes Argentina recognized him as one of the richest men in the country, with an estimated fortune of 4.7 billion dollars.

Additionally, Martínez Guzmán gained notoriety in 2017 by granting a loan of over 300 million dollars to Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to help pay the debts of the state-owned oil company PDVSA and to curb protests in the country. His career includes management positions in companies such as Grupo Alfa, Cemex, and Vitro. The approval of the National Communications Entity (Enacom) for the acquisition of Telecom and the continuation of the purchase of Nextel demonstrate Martínez Guzmán's influence in the financial and business realm of the region.
