Celebrating International Women's Day at UDEM

Let's imagine a reality different from the one currently lived by each of the women in our country. In this hypothetical situation, there would be a regression in our rights. In which the history of the women who preceded us would be erased from the social collective. We would return to the time when we were not allowed to vote, work, or study, or simply to decide freely about our lives. This is a reality that happens in some countries, or that is looming in others, and there is nothing more that history can teach us than the lessons from situations and historical events that should not be repeated.

It is our duty to honor the legacy of all those brave women, those voices that demanded respect and equality. We must make their struggles visible, to which we owe our freedom and our fulfillment as women. We must never take our rights for granted, as at any moment in history they could be taken away. Our rights are a daily struggle. We must continue rewriting our paths and create new routes. It is time for each woman, with a name, a family, a story, a context behind her, and her own dreams, to build new realities for herself and for all the others we connect with along the way.

It is the moment to continue with alliances and to fight against resistances. We must question ourselves from our privileges about the differences that mark us and the intersections that cross us. Raising our voices is how we can amplify our impact and create a more inclusive and equal environment in our society. It concerns us to protect the dignity of every woman in our surroundings and to seek the representation of all, since through the diversity of perspectives and experiences we can inspire and represent future generations. We need to be strength, to be hope and example, and through empathy and love, we can support one another and uphold the dreams of every girl, of every teenager, so that she can transcend in her own stories and dreams.

The commemoration of International Women's Day invites us as a society to reflect on the importance of women's active participation in all areas. This is fundamental for progress and innovation in our society. We need to review what we are doing to prevent and eradicate violence from our areas, from our social and family environments. This story is written by all people, and it is up to us to join together to achieve change.

At UDEM, through the Gender Equity and Inclusion Center, various training events are held each year in commemoration of International Women's Day that aim to inspire not only our students but the entire society. In this edition 'UDEMxTODAS with everyone in motion', the aim is to unite all voices for reflection and joint action regarding women's rights. Integrating the values of reconciliation and hope, the spirit of unity and diversity, and the commitment to equity and inclusion to build a more just and equal society.

One of the emblematic activities of this edition is the launch of the Agreements of the Alliance for Equity and against Gender Violence between UDEM, TEC, U-ERRE, and UANL. The goal is to strengthen the commitment of educational institutions to work together on the implementation of concrete and effective actions that promote gender equity and contribute to the eradication of violence in our state.

Another activity is the 7-a-side Football Tournament in which our students will participate. The aim is to promote equitable participation of men and women in sports activities and reinforce the community's commitment to building a more just and equal society for all people.
