Governor Samuel García reported that actions are being signed with Semarnat, INEC, and the Undersecretary of Environmental Regulation to work together for air quality in Nuevo León. The participation of the three levels of government will be sought, especially from mayors, taking advantage of the current governance environment.
The governor mentioned that synergy will be created with the mayor of Monterrey, Adrián de la Garza, who is also the president of the National Commission of Municipalities of Mexico (Conamm), to implement immediate actions at the federal and local levels in favor of the environment. It is intended to unite all actors involved in this cause.
In a recent meeting, Semarnat and the Secretariat of Environment of Nuevo León agreed to draft a proposal for the creation of a Metropolitan Environmental Commission. This commission would help coordinate actions among different levels of government and provide scientific and technical evidence to make informed decisions.
Samuel García explained that the federal responsibility industries will be reviewed in detail, such as the refinery and fuels, to ensure compliance with established environmental regulations. The Federation has committed to collaborating with the state to improve air quality.
The governor expressed his support for the creation of a Metropolitan Environmental Table during President Claudia Sheinbaum's visit to Nuevo León. This table will include participation from all three levels of government and will seek to promote concrete actions to address the problem of air pollution in the region.
