The Christus Muguerza hospital system in Mexico has taken an important step by integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning into its operations. With an investment exceeding 100 million pesos in the last seven years, the organization has managed to digitalize the clinical records of its patients and develop an innovative model of synthetic data to improve diagnoses and treatments without compromising patient privacy.
The Artificial Intelligence manager at Christus Muguerza, Andrés Omar Nevares, explained that this collaboration with Amazon Web Services, the University of Monterrey (UDEM), and the CHRISTUS Center of Excellence and Innovation (CEI) aims to enhance scientific research and the application of artificial intelligence in the healthcare sector. This project will improve medical care in key areas such as the prevention of surgical complications, the management of cardiovascular and renal emergencies, and the optimization of intensive care.
Horacio Garza, general director of Christus Muguerza, emphasized that the organization has been working on conceptualizing and developing the vision of a technology-supported hospital for several years now. The synthetic data generated simulate real data from the institution's electronic clinical records, allowing researchers to validate hypotheses, develop new protocols, and create AI models, while ensuring patient privacy.
This approach respects the privacy of sensitive patient information at a time when the security of health data is a significant concern. Christus Muguerza has been a pioneer in initiatives aimed at improving medical care and serving the community. Thanks to this collaboration, artificial intelligence technology is being successfully implemented in the daily operations of the group's hospitals, enhancing diagnoses, treatments, and patient care.
