Dengue Cases Surge in Nuevo León

In Nuevo León, the Health Secretary is taking stricter measures to curb the dengue outbreak in the region. In the last week, 1,079 cases of the disease have been reported in the state, positioning it as the second highest in the nation in incidence.

The Health Secretary has requested the cooperation of local mayors in implementing preventive and combative actions against dengue. Various municipalities in Nuevo León with a high number of cases have been identified, including: Apodaca, Escobedo, Guadalupe, Juárez, Monterrey, San Nicolás, and Santa Catarina.

Alma Rosa Marroquín, head of the department, emphasized the importance of cleanliness and the elimination of stagnant water containers as a fundamental preventive measure. Various actions have been carried out, such as entomological work in more than 63,925 homes, larval control in 227,536 households, fumigation in 174,041 hectares, and household spraying in 157,616 homes, among other activities.

The Health Secretary has also provided support to municipalities by supplying equipment and insecticides to combat the spread of the virus. Additionally, fumigations have been carried out in cemeteries, and a special operation is planned for the Day of the Dead, November 2, which will include the application of larvicide in vases and citizen awareness activities.

Despite concerns raised by the Congress of Nuevo León to declare an emergency due to the increase in dengue cases, the Health Secretary has reported that, so far, local hospitals have not reached their maximum capacity. Alma Rosa Marroquín pointed out that the number of hospitalizations is a key indicator for assessing hospital saturation.
