Nuevo León is in second place nationally in dengue cases, according to the latest Epidemiological Report from the Federal Health Secretariat. Despite this, a significant reduction in the number of sick individuals has been observed. There were 523 new patients reported, half compared to the previous week, bringing the total to 8,647 cases in the region, a little more than half of the cases reported in Jalisco, which tops the list with 15,948 cases.
In the state, Monterrey is the municipality with the most cases, with 1,644 affected individuals and 61 new cases. It is followed by Guadalupe with 791 and San Nicolás de los Garza with 684. Municipal authorities have intensified actions to combat the proliferation of the dengue-transmitting mosquito.
The mayor of Monterrey, Adrián de la Garza, has led efforts to combat the presence of the mosquito in the Neolonese capital, including junk removal and fumigation programs in all neighborhoods. Specific times have been established to maximize the effectiveness of the fumigations, conducting them at dawn and dusk.
For its part, San Pedro has launched a prevention campaign that includes fumigation, junk removal, and the distribution of larvicide in homes to prevent the spread of the mosquito. The disinfection of public spaces, green areas, parks, and squares, where the risk of mosquito presence is greater, has been prioritized.
In the fight against dengue, various activities have been carried out at the state level, including the inspection of over 63,925 homes, the evaluation of container cleaning in 227,536 households, the nebulization of 174,041 hectares, the spraying of 157,616 homes, the inspection of ovitraps on 664,608 occasions, and the fumigation of 527 schools. The municipalities have received support with equipment and insecticides to carry out these preventive actions.
